Create, Rename, and Organize Projects

Why Projects Matter

Every recording in 12scribe lives inside a project. A project is a container that holds your audio sessions, markers, transcriptions, and AI-generated notes for a single lecture, meeting, interview, or any other event. Organizing recordings into separate projects keeps your library clean and makes it easy to find specific content weeks or months later.

You can create as many projects as you need. Each one tracks its own statistics — total recording time, number of sessions, marker count, and transcription status. Whether you record one lecture a week or ten meetings a day, the project structure scales with you.

Create a Project

To create a new project, open the Projects tab and tap New Project. Enter a descriptive name — something like "Biology 101 - Week 3" or "Product Standup March 15". The more specific the name, the easier it is to find later.

Next, choose a project type: Lecture, Meeting, or Other. The project type influences how AI analyzes your recordings and what kind of Smart Notes it generates. A lecture project emphasizes definitions and key concepts, while a meeting project focuses on decisions and action items.

After tapping Create, the project appears in your list immediately. You can start recording right away or configure per-project settings first.

Tip: Group related projects into playlists to keep your library organized by semester, client, or topic.

Rename and Edit Projects

Project names are not permanent. To rename a project, open it and tap the project title at the top of the screen. The name becomes editable — type the new name and tap Done. You can also change the project type from the same screen if your needs have changed.

Renaming is useful when your initial label no longer fits. A project called "Test Recording" can become "Client Interview - Sarah" once you know what the session contains. Renaming does not affect your recordings, markers, or transcriptions — everything inside the project stays intact. You can rename a project as many times as you need without any side effects.

Delete a Project

To delete a project, swipe left on it in the project list and tap Delete. You can also open the project, tap the settings icon, and choose Delete Project from the menu.

Deleting a project removes all its recordings, markers, and transcriptions permanently. This action cannot be undone, so make sure you no longer need the content before confirming. If you want to keep the recordings but remove the project from your main list, consider moving it to a dedicated playlist instead.

Warning: Deleting a project permanently removes all recordings, markers, and transcriptions inside it. This action cannot be undone.

View Project Statistics

Each project displays useful statistics that help you understand your recording activity at a glance:

  • Total duration — combined length of all recording sessions in the project
  • Session count — how many individual recordings the project contains
  • Marker count — total number of manual and AI-generated markers
  • Transcription status — whether transcription is complete, in progress, or not started
  • Storage used — disk space consumed by audio files in the project

Statistics appear on the project detail screen. Use them to monitor which projects consume the most storage and to track your recording habits over time. If storage is running low, the statistics view helps you identify large projects that can be trimmed or exported.

The statistics update automatically as you add new recording sessions, create markers, or complete transcriptions. There is no manual refresh needed — open the project and the current numbers are always visible.
