Why Per-Project Settings Exist
Not every recording needs the same treatment. A quick voice memo does not require full AI analysis, while a two-hour university lecture benefits from detailed, timestamped notes. 12scribe lets you configure transcription and AI behavior independently for each project, so you spend processing minutes only where they add value.
Per-project settings override your global defaults. This means you can set conservative defaults for most projects and enable advanced features only for the ones that need them. Any new recording session within the project automatically inherits that project's configuration.
Auto-Transcription Toggle
When Auto-Transcription is enabled for a project, every recording session is sent for transcription automatically the moment you stop recording. There is no extra tap required — the process starts in the background and you receive a notification when the text is ready.
To toggle this setting, open a project, tap the Settings icon, and switch Auto-Transcription on or off. When disabled, you transcribe recordings manually by tapping Transcribe on individual sessions. Manual mode is useful for projects where you record frequently but only need transcriptions for selected sessions.
Auto-transcription consumes minutes from your monthly transcription quota. If you are on the free plan with 150 minutes per month, consider enabling it only for high-priority projects. Learn more about the transcription process in Auto-Transcription.
Detalization Level
The Detalization Level controls how much detail the AI includes when generating Smart Notes. 12scribe offers three levels:
- Compact — the AI creates fewer markers, focusing only on major topic changes and critical moments. Best for short meetings or recordings where you only need a high-level overview.
- Standard — a balanced approach that captures key points, definitions, decisions, and notable transitions. This is the default and works well for most lectures and meetings.
- Extended — the AI generates the most detailed analysis, including supporting arguments, examples, and secondary points. Ideal for dense academic lectures or interviews where every detail matters.
To change the level, open the project settings and tap Detalization Level. The setting applies to all future AI analyses within the project. Transcription Language
Each project can specify its own transcription language. Setting the correct language improves transcription accuracy significantly — matching the spoken language typically raises accuracy from around 80% to over 94%.
Open the project settings and tap Language to see the list of supported options. If your recordings consistently use the same language, set it once and forget it. For projects with mixed-language content, the automatic detection mode usually handles transitions between languages, though accuracy may vary at switch points.
The per-project language setting overrides the global default in your app settings. This is useful when you attend lectures in one language but conduct meetings in another — each project uses the right language without manual switching.
How Defaults Work
When you create a new project, it inherits settings from your global defaults configured in the Settings tab. These defaults include the auto-transcription toggle, detalization level, and transcription language. You can change the global defaults at any time — existing projects keep their current settings, but new projects pick up the updated values.
If you find yourself changing the same setting on every new project, update the global default instead. This saves time and ensures consistency across your library. Per-project overrides remain available for the exceptions.
